TRAGIC GEORGIA ACCIDENT LEADS TO POSITIVE CHANGE
January 2017
In 2014, Cody Pike of Warner Robins, Georgia was killed when the Bad Boy XTO utility vehicle he was riding in rolled over and trapped him underneath. His parents, who Jarome was proud to represent as co-counsel in Cody’s wrongful death lawsuit, wanted to make sure that no other family suffered such a loss. Due to a recent recall, the buggies will now be safer for others.
This tragic accident has led to positive change, as evidenced by the recent recall of the dangerous off-road utility vehicles. On January 11, 2017, Textron Specialized Vehicles, Inc. of Augusta, Georgia and the Consumer Products Safety Commission announced the recall of about 1,100 Textron Bad Boy Buggy off-road utility vehicles.
They were recalled due to a lack of seatbelts.
The models affected are the Bad Boy XTO and Bone Collector XTO. Their serial numbers, located on the steering column connected to the wheel, range from 8000020 to 8004934.
If you own one of these recalled vehicles it is urgent that you stop using it immediately and get it fixed. With their high center of gravity, these vehicles are prone to rollovers. In the event of a rollover, it is easy for drivers and passengers, who are not belted, to fall out or be thrown from the vehicle, causing serious injury or death.
Textron Specialized Vehicles is contacting all known purchasers directly. Consumers who own one of the affected vehicles can contact Textron or an authorized dealer for a free installation of seat belts. Textron may be reached by calling toll-free at 855-738-3711 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at www.badboyoffroad.com and click on “recall information” for more information.
